Compounding Prescription
Orange Express Pharmacy can customize your medications according to your physician’s specific requirements. Your health situation may not be like everyone else’s because the meds you need are not commercially available. This is why at our pharmacy, we specially prepare your medication through compounding.
NOTE: A prescription from the doctor is still needed when you request to compound a prescription drug.
- Capsules or Tablets
If the patient is taking lots of medication at the same time, we may be able to encapsulate all of their prescription in one medicine. - Chewable
Making your medication into chewable is favorable to both adult and children. While children may find it hard to take capsules or tablets down their throat, it’d be easier to chew them before drinking water to fully take it. For adults, chewable tablets are good when water is unavailable when they travel. - Syrup
Some people prefer syrup in taking their medication because it is easier to drink it and take it down the throat. - Troches or Lozenges
Medicine would take effect immediately when troches are used for treating oral problems because nerve endings are found at the back of the tongue. - Flavoring
Bitter tasting medicine is hard to take in. We can flavor your medicine depending on your choice. We can also turn medicine into candies or lollipops for children who do not like taking their vitamins or medicine as tablets. - Thyroid Hormones
Did you know more than half of all people with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition? A randomized, double-blind, crossover study found inclusion of thyroid hormone replacement improved cognitive performance, mood, physical status, and neuropsychological function in hypothyroid patients. Two-thirds of patients tended to be less depressed than after treatment. Patients and their physicians may wish to consider the use of the treatment of hypothyroidism, particularly when the response to levothyroxine has not been complete. - Andropuase
Androgen deficiency in the aging male (ADAM), also known as andropause. Symptoms of testosterone deficiency may include, osteoporosis, weakness, fatigue and reduced libido. A man may be considered hypogonadal at any age if total testosterone is less than 200 ng/dl, or bioavailable testosterone is less than 60 ng/dl. Studies at Johns Hopkins University recommend that elderly men with symptoms of hypogonadism and a total testosterone level 300ng/dl should be started on hormone replacement. Here at Orange express pharmacy we offer hormone replacement with aromatizable androgens. Proper monitoring of laboratory values and clinical response are essential when prescribing testosterone replacement therapy to help with testosterone levels. The only absolute contraindications to androgen replacement therapy are the presence of prostate or breast cancer. - Bio-identical hormones.
Bio-identical hormones have the same chemical structure as hormones that are made by the human body. The term “bio-identical” refers to the chemical structure. In order for a replacement hormone to fully replicate the hormones which the human body originally naturally produced, the chemical structure must exactly match the original. Bio-identical hormones are able to follow normal metabolic pathways so that essential active metabolites are formed in response to hormone replacement therapy.
Bio-identical hormones include estrone , estradiol , testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and pregnenolone. Our compounding specialists, here at orange express pharmacy work together with patients and physicians to provide customized bio-identical hormone replacement therapy that provides the needed hormones by measuring the appropriate strength and dosage form to meet each woman’s specific needs. Every woman is unique and will respond to therapy differently - Estrogens
A woman’s circulating estrogen levels fluctuate based on her menstrual cycle under normal circumstances. For Hormone Replacement Therapy, these hormones are often prescribed in combination to re-establish a normal balance. The two main estrogens produced in female humans are Estrone which is the primary estrogen produced after menopause. And Estradiol, the most potent and major secretory product of the ovary, and the predominant estrogen produced before menopause. - Androgens
Androgens are hormones that are important to the integrity of skin, muscle, and bone in both males and females, and have an important role in maintaining libido. Declines in serum testosterone are associated with hysterectomy, menopause, and age-related gender-independent decreases in DHEA and DHEA-sulfate. DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is an androgen precursor from which the body can derive testosterone. After menopause, a woman’s ovaries continue to produce androgens; however, the majority of the androgens produced in the female body, even before menopause, come from peripheral conversion of DHEA. As the body ages, production of DHEA declines so that by the time a woman goes through menopause, the production of DHEA is often inadequate. Additionally, ERT may cause relative ovarian and adrenal androgen deficiency, creating a rationale for concurrent physiologic androgen replacement. Recently, attention has turned to the addition of the androgens to a woman’s HRT regimen in order to alleviate recalcitrant menopausal symptoms and further protect against osteoporosis, loss of immune function, obesity, and diabetes.
Androgens, such as testosterone and DHEA:
- enhance libido.
- enhance bone building (increase calcium retention).
- provide cardiovascular protection (lower cholesterol).
- improve energy level and mental alertness.
